The first half of the season was completed on Thursday, with Reef & Lepage71 leading the field to the green. Reef kept his perfect record of qualifying @ Lowe's going with 3 poles in 3 events, running his fastest official qualifying lap to this point with a 37.582 second lap. It all almost went bad in the first turn of the race with a near wreck between GR8-1 and Reef, where GR8-1 ended up on the apron...but everyone backed off and stayed in the lead draft after it. G ROCK made a power move from his starting spot of 3rd and led lap 1. First Feature Race runner LH8 went to the front on lap 4, but was knocked out on lap 6 when Viagra6car hit the wall and tried to bring it back into the groove, knocking LH into the grass and out. Points leader Efgordon was knocked into the wall from "just a racin deal" on lap 7 when GR8-1, Fat9fan, and himself were in a 3 wide battle in turn 1. Fat9fan would drop back to help Ef out, which eventually ended up being a 3 car draft with LH8 also involved. But this just wasn't enough to catch a 7 car lead draft. The biggest wreck took place on lap 22 when the leader of the race (GR8-1)'s game uncontrollably minimized. Reef, G ROCK, Bear, Lepage, Pitbull, and Viagra6car would all collide. As a result, 4 cars ended up pulling away in the lead draft-Bear328, Lepage71, G ROCK, and Viagra6car. Those 4 racers would stay in line basically until the very end. Reef, Fat9fan, Efgordon, and LH8 would hook up in a draft on lap 36. On the following lap, Pitbull4 slammed the wall in turn 3 and came back accross the track right in front of them, but they all passed without any real problems. Finally on lap 58, Viagra6car tried to make the first move in the lead pack, moving to the outside of Lepage71. He would get no help and drop back in line in 4th. Later this lap, G ROCK attempted a move to the outside of Bear for the lead on the outside, getting no help also and dropping back to 4th. Crossing the line with 2 to go, Viagra6car got a huge push from G ROCK that put him in the lead. Lepage71 followed the 6 car then and moved to 2nd while Bear went back to 4th. In turn 3, Lepage moved to the inside of V6, with V6 falling in behind car 71. Bear328 made a move to the outside by himself to move into 3rd ahead of G ROCK. He then pushed 6 to the inside of 71 a couple times, but 71 was not going to allow anyone by. As Bear & G ROCK got side-by-side on the backstretch of the final lap, they bounced off each several times as 71 & 6 pulled away. Coming off turn 4, Viagra6car made his move to the outside of Lepage...and as they crossed the line, Lepage was ahead by just 0.016 seconds. This was the closest finish in league history. Behind them, Efgordon managed 5th while Fat9fan finished just 1 hundredth of a second ahead of LH8 for 6th. At the halfway point of the season, Efgordon leads by 42 points. |
