GR8-1 picked up his first career pole Thursday in Michigan, with G ROCK getting a surprising qualifying run starting outside of row 1. Fourth place starter Viagra6car led lap 1, followed by G ROCK leading lap 2. The first accident happened on lap 2 off turn 2 when LH8 hit the wall in a single-car accident, swurving out of the way just in front of 9th place at the time Viagra6car. Only LH lost the draft and ended up finishing 9th. Polesitter GR8-1 continues to have connection problems with ghosting, and was saved by Viagra6car 2 or 3 times. Lead changes were occuring each lap as Reef, Bear328, Pitbull4, GR8-1, Lepage71, G ROCK, and Efgordon all took their turn at leading the race. GR8-1's ghosting came back again on lap 10 and lasted for an extended amount of time, causing him to lose the lead draft. He dropped back to draft with LH8, but would hit the wall "because of a poor handling car" and ended up finishing last in 10th place. Going back to lead changes though...very few people probably noticed it, but lead changes occured on each of the first 13 laps until KTIN3 led laps 13 & 14. Only LH8 did not lead the race at all because of his early collision with the wall. On lap 14, Reef ghosted and lost the draft also (finished 8th). The 51 team is sickened by the technical problems and inconsistent finishes this year, but be sure to watch him in Homestead as he defends his win there from last season. On the very next lap (15), G ROCK lost the draft as Viagra6car was bump drafting with KTIN3, causing Lepage71 to run into the back of the 6 car, then G ROCK running into Lepage, slowing him enough to lose the draft. Then again on the next lap (16) Pitbull4 hit the wall off turn 2 following leader Efgordon's high draft line. Pitbull tried to get his car off the wall and out of the way for the nearby racers by taking his car low, but Lepage71 was already trying to go under the 15 car. Lepage71 lost the draft, and ended up in a draft with G ROCK as Pitbull continued on in the lead pack. Into the closing laps, the outside draft line was setting up, with 4 of the 5 cars remaining in the lead pack running it all almost all times. Bear328 passed by Viagra6car as just 3 laps remained, but KTIN3 got by the 28 car in the following turn. Into the final couple laps, Viagra6car & Bear328 were in the low-line draft with KTIN3, Efgordon, and Pitbull4 in the high-line draft. Viagra6car inched ahead to lead lap 28, with 2 laps to go. The outside line would come back though, slowly progressing outside the 2 cars to the inside. KTIN3 took the lead clearly into turn 3 coming for the white flag. Heading down the backstretch, 4th place Viagra6car pulled low again and got help from Bear328, passing by Pitbull4 & Efgordon. KTIN3 saw it coming and moved down to the low line just in time. This move killed the momentum of anyone in the lead pack, so it was an easy cruise to the checkers for the "TIN Man." KTIN3 won his first career race and is now just 15 points out of the top 10 in standings for the season. Viagra6car finished 2nd, but still says he is out of the championship battle. Bear328 finished in 3rd and is only 11 points out of the lead. Efgordon finished 4th and is now tied with Lepage71 for the points lead with just 2 races left at Homestead and Pocono. Pitbull4 picked up his best finish of the season to this point with a 5th place finish. |
