G ROCK took his 3rd career pole @ Sears Point Thursday night with a lap of 78.359. Starting next to him on row 1 was (surprise!). Reef would take the lead by the end of the first lap and pull away just a bit. G ROCK held 2nd spot though, with Bear328 up to 3rd and KTIN3 in 4th. Viagra6car had dropped back to 5th early on but gradually worked his way to the front. A couple laps in he got back ahead of KT for 4th, then Bear the next lap for 3rd. On lap 5 Reef's lead on G ROCK was shrinking, as Viagra6car closed in on both of them. The three drivers were within 2 seconds at one point. Off turn 11 on this 5th lap, V6 lost control of his car and slammed head-on into the pit wall on the right side of the track. He would drop to last with major damage and even had to make a pit stop. On the 6th lap G ROCK went by Reef on this high side through turn 11. Reef had a run back ahead of G on the inside but drifted up and hit the wall off the turn. G ROCK was gone after this. Meanwhile KTIN3 & TommyW battled for the 4th spot, a battle lasting about 10 laps. LH8 was just behind this pair in 6th spot but continually lost time struggling to keep his car on track. Viagra6car would pass LH8 with 2 laps to go for the 6th position. The closing laps came and left without any passes for position, with G ROCK the big winner on this night. His margin of victory was just over 5 seconds, in his 2nd win (other at Watkins Glen). Reef picked up the valuable points with a 2nd place run, followed by Bear328, KTIN3, TommyW, Viagra6car, and the final finisher of LH8 in 7th. This was the smallest crowd since Pocono in Season 1. Next up on the schedule is the tough short track Martinsville. |
