SUPRS Sights Set on Salem

Goshen, IN – April 19, 2019…The Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), is bringing non-wing supermodified sim racing to The Salem Speedway in southern Indiana on April 23, 2019 for the “Hurryin’ Hoosier 30.”

Back to NASCAR Heat

After using the rFactor sim racing platform last year in their first visit back to Salem Speedway since 2015, SUPRS officials have switched back to the NASCAR Heat sim for this year’s race. Hoping to attract several top-notch NASCAR Heat regulars to the event, this race has been added to the season-long SUPRS/HeatFinder.net Supermodified Challenge schedule.

As such, the race is open to the public to anyone that has registered to run at SUPRS.net, and has taken advantage of the public downloads available to registered sim racers. The race will use SUPRS NASCAR Heat NW v2 mod and Salem Speedway AR available via The Mod Squad site.

Salem Pivotal to Points

With only four races left in the 15th Anniversary SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Championship schedule, there’s no slowing down for the competitors that are looking to gain those last few points. This is especially true of Rob Warren and Keith Powell, because both are in the midst of a season long points battle, and are now separated by only three points.

Even more critical to the overall championship points battle is the fact that this race is also part of the 2018-19 Indyana Supermod Challenge, (ISC), series where the overall winner of the series takes home 15 valuable bonus points.

The ISC began in October at LaPorte Speedway with the NASCAR Heat, wing supermodified "Harvest of Speed" won by Keith Powell. It finishes a week after the Salem show at Indianapolis Raceway Park with a double-header, wing and non-wing rFactor supermodified spectacular. Warren is the defending champion of the Indyana Supermod Challenge, as well as defending winner of the Salem race, so Powell, who led the points until last week, will have his work cut out for him at Salem and beyond trying to topple Warren’s reign in the Hoosier State.

Callahan Successful at Salem

Steve Callahan has a very good record at Salem in his non-wing supermodified. In what is thought to be the very first time SUPRS ran at Salem Speedway in a race that was called the Indyana Supermod Classic on August 11, 2010, Callahan won. In fact, Callahan is so good at Salem, he’s finished out of the top five just twice in all of the races run there under the SUPRS sanction.

Bet on Bonzai on Banks

Carl "Bonzai" Becker has had his fair share of success on the banks of this southern Indiana institution as well, taking his Dowker Titanium Roadster to a wing supermodified win on November 12, 2013. The Lansing, MI veteran has two other top five finishes in his winged supermodified and three in his non-wing car as well.

Hurryin’ Hoosier Happenings

Practice for the SUPRS Hurryin’ Hoosier 30, at The Salem Speedway, using SUPRS NASCAR Heat NW v2 mod, begins at 8:00pm on April 23. A 15 minute Drivers Meeting takes place in TeamSpeak prior to the drivers taking to the track for Time Trials at 8:30pm. After that, two 10 lap Heat Races are scheduled to go off at 9:05pm.

The dice roll for the feature inversion follows the heats, with the Green flag for the Hurryin' Hoosier 30 lap feature at The Salem Speedway expected to drop after driver introductions at about 9:30pm.
