SUPRS North Carolina Swing Night 1 Winners Carl Becker, Keith Powell (SUPRS)
Becker Back, Powell Powerful in North Carolina Swing Openers

October 23, 2018 – Caraway, NC …Carl Becker and Keith Powell passed the same driver on their way to collecting the wins on the first night of the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), 15th Annual North Carolina Swing Tuesday at Dasera Speedway and Caraway Speedway.

Becker Back

You have to go back to November 18, 2014 to find the last time that Carl “Bonzai” Becker sat in the SUPRS Winner’s Circle. There you’ll find his name as the winner of the 11th Annual Turkey Shoot at Tri-Park Speedway. It was also 2014 when he last won a race in North Carolina and it was at the same track, Dasera Speedway.

Becker, who had started right next to reigning North Carolina Swing Champion Rob Warren in row two, and had stayed with Warren lockstep, easily took the lead after Warren got caught up behind a lapped car. Becker then held on through his own battles in lapped traffic to take the win in his Dowker Titanium Roadster. Steve Callahan was nearly three seconds back in second and crossed the line with Bob Gangwer right on his rear nerf bar in third.

Powell Keeps Warren Winless

In the second race of the night, Keith Powell used a three-wide power move on lap 32 to block Rob Warren behind a lapped car and make a pass for the lead and eventual win. Warren did all he could, short of wrecking Powell, to keep the Carrollton, OH driver behind him and the two rubbed wheels nearly the length of the straight away before the frustrated Warren finally relinquishing his lead.

It was Powell’s second win of the season and a bitter disappointment for Warren who finished second and remains without a feature win so far this season. Bob Gangwer battled Steve Callahan throughout the race and came out on top in third place.

Two More Qualifying Races Left

The SUPRS stars move on to Southern National Motorsports Park and Concord Motorsports Park for the third and fourth legs of the challenging North Carolina Swing. These are the last two qualifying races of the swing and drivers will push their rFactor supermodifieds hard to make sure they stay in the top eight in North Carolina Swing points.

Practice for both races begins at 8pm with racing slated to go at 9:05. Fans can catch all the action of SUPRS North Carolina Swing Night 2 by tuning into SUPRS LIVE! at 9pm
