Warren Blasts to Black Creek Win

February 5, 2019 – Enterprise, FL… Rob Warren of Pulaski, NY, starting deep in the pack, quickly made his way to the front, then took the lead from Carl Becker on lap 11 and went on win the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), 2019 Florida Speedweeks feature at Black Creek Raceway. Defending Speedweeks Champion, Keith Powell, came home second with Monday night’s winner SpeedyMan11 a close third.

Crazy Start Helps Warren

A slow start that jumbled up the middle of the field, helped Warren move into contention for the win by turn one. “What an insane run, the middle of the pack didn’t really get going, (on the start),” said Warren. “I went left, then right, almost ran into the 41, then almost ran into the 55. It was a really crazy start.”

After making it through the crazy start, Warren was now up to fourth and trying to figure out a way to get around some heavy hitters that were in front of him. “I was watching SpeedyMan11 and Carl, and then Bob went to the high side,” explained the winner. “He got up beside them but couldn’t make it stick, so I said “I’m just going to stick down here on the bottom,” and you could have thrown a napkin over the top four at that point.”

Warren, was able to get by PseedyMan11, and move right up to the rear nerf bar of leader, Carl Becker. He explained how he got into the lead saying, “I got a good run on Carl. I think he over drove turn one just a whisker bit, and we were side by side for about a lap, then I finally got the bite I needed to out drag him.” Warren then added, “Thanks to Kevin Timmins and BreezeGraphics.com, and Icings on Top for all the great awards. It’s been a great season so far. Congrats to Keith on second.”

Fantastic Racing Led by Becker

Although he was very slow to get up to speed, pole-sitter, Carl “Bonzai” Becker of Lansing, MI, proved to be no slouch once the race got going. The cagey veteran held SpeedyMan11 at bay for the first several laps. Then Bob Gangwer got into the fracas, followed closely by Rob Warren. It wasn’t long before Keith Powell also joined the battle as well, but Becker wasn’t about to lay over and let anyone by.

Racing for all he was worth, and trying for his second win of the season, the four cars behind him were sometimes three-wide as they fought each other while trying to find a way past the Dowker Titanium Roadster of Becker.

Gangwer dropped out of the picture as he slid into the infield around lap five, and Warren, who started all the way back in eighth, eventually got around SpeedyMan11. Finally, on lap 11, Becker slid up the track only slightly, allowing Warren just enough room to take his 1st to Finish Race Servers ride to the inside and past Becker. SpeedyMan11 and Powell followed suit, relegating Becker to fourth where he stayed to the end.
