Richmond International Raceway is the next stop on the Heat Racing Series schedule. Racing side-by-side "under the lights" Friday night Short Track, Richmond’s ¾-mile D-shaped oval always features an exciting show. The 3/4 mile track is 14 degrees of banking in the turns, 8 degrees on the front "D" section and 2 degrees on the backstretch. Races on the track’s date back as far as 1946 when the track was built as a 1/2 mile dirt track, in 1953 the first NASCAR race was run that too was on dirt. The track got paved in 1968 as a .542 mile track. In 1988 the track was reconfigured into what we know it as today 3/4 mile paved raceway. The first race "under the lights" was run in 1991.
