It appears we lost Nascar Heat's own Ironman, Bill DeVerville aka Patch. RIP buddy, you made racing a lot of fun.
He had at least 1,460 starts in various league races with 218 wins and the most top 5's with 1,087 and won 25 championships.

I'm very sorry to hear this. I can't believe that I may even miss how nervous I would get when I would come up on him and wonder how I was ever going to get by that red and white #26. or to look in my mirror and see it full of that big bold BUD car filling it up. he was a mean old bugger, but I learned a lot watching the way he could work each track in it's own right. I never looked up his stats, but after reading them, now I know why.
perhaps the admins could retire his number, name a race or a series after him, or something. so we don't forget him too soon. that would be cool.
RIP Patch!

How did we find this out?

I am pretty sure we as a league will come up with a way to remember him.

R.I.P. My nemesis, my competitor, my enemy, our friend. I abused him alot but he's our family and we had the right. So very sad to hear. Where ever there was a race Patch was a factor to be reckoned with, regardless of Mod or venue.

I am heart broke for the Heat community and Bills family. I don't think anyone of us saw this coming. I have had the honor of racing against him in a number of online races and in those years I would hope to think that we had become friends. We all have our racing moments " wtf Patch" lol but the truth of it is he was a man who gave it has all anytime he raced and if that ruffled a few feathers...hey that's racing. Bill DeVerville used to tell me all the time "Damn it Jess I'm going to race them the way they race me" as I was poised to suspend him for a race or two and a few times he won the decision. I have to say I don't think he EVER held back in any race or what he thought about a racing incident. It pains me that he received the red flag in life too early, even though we didn't see eye to eye on everything I still have a lot of respect for him and always will. Hes my vote for Heat Hall of Fame smile emoticon "Yupper" ..lol...Damn Patch....I'm already missing you buddy"

Patch was the one person you could count on being at every racing event in our community, and he would be competitive every time. He got into it with just about everyone he race against at one point or another but I always defended his actions, he was a good man and a dedicated man.

One thing can surely be said, our online racing community would not have been the same without him. God Bless and God Speed.

I've only been here a short time, but I know what a tough competitor he was. I can remember banging fenders with him on several occasions, he never gave quarter even if he was laps down. He was a true racer. RIP and condolences to his family.

Sad to hear this, its a tough loss for the community. Just like everyone else, I had my share of incidents with patch going all the way back to the PTC days. One positive I can make out of it is it helped me become a better/faster driver because of the drive to put some distance on him back when a little bit of spoiler damage would ruin your car running in hardcore mode. I don't think Heat will ever see another driver as dedicated to it as he was, seemed like any result you looked at, patch was on there somewhere. He will definitely be missed.

This is from one of the LCHRL practices in 2011. One of my fondest memories was beating and banging with him during this practice run...

Sad to hear of Patch passing. He was a hell of a competitor. He could be a testy old S.O.B. and I mean that with the utmost respect. It wont be the same without him worrying everyone he was rubbing... I mean racing with!

Its going to be really sad not seeing patch in the result file anymore. He was heat's iron man, was there for every race, any league, any day..i've raced with patch for over 7 or 8 years now and he def was a very aggressive racer..You knew any time he was around you, he was not going to make it easy..he would fight tooth and nail for every inch, every spot on track..although he rattled a few cages along the way, the guy had over 200 wins and 20 championships, so he must have been doing something right..I will really miss racing patch in the LCHRL mod, seems like me and him had numerous 1,2 finishes and very close finishes..he made me step my game up in that mod/series..Spike's video pretty much sums it all up what you could expect from him out there, beating and banging, and very close tough racing..i think everyone in the community, whatever league you race in, ask the admin to be the #26 for just 1 race in memory of patch and drive it like you stole it and get that win at all costs, like he would want you to.

What? Patch is dead? He was one of the biggest names in the NASCAR Heat community, and I left NASCAR Heat for rFactor and come back to this? So sad.
