Here's an idea, if you really want to keep people on their toes, draw the random wear factor right before the race starts so no one knows until race time what it will be.

I'll add another suggestion.Change races from Normal mode to a fixed set that has less wheel lock than the 25-30% that is currently used .Most of the reason i have had slower speeds in normal mode is due to this.
I skipped last nights Bristol race because even with a g-27 wheel i get frustrated trying to keep from oversteering and scrubbing off speed. my best lap offline practicing was a 15.287.once. the avg was in the 400's.in hardcore mode i can run in the 14.800's same track. just a suggestion.

I like that idea

Maybe some of the others will also and we can take a vote on it.

We are not going to change from Normal mode considering that is what this league was created for.

how about just the same factor for all the ARL races? in the past couple weeks I've seen two different guys try several times to get started in the league. and after getting overwhelmed with all that's required, have just disappeared. I liked puttzracer's idea of a bundled software package to make it easier for a new comer to get started. but why then throw a wear factor on him right before the race so he can run out of gas or pit out of line?

Wear factor 1x-6x to be determined by random dice roll before race.

I say cut out qualifying all together and just invert the lineup based on last weeks result.

What newcomers to Heat did you lose because of this?

Running in normal mode is the easiest thing you can do.. Basically if someone is just starting out racing, racing in 1x wear factor you will never run out of gas. If you practice offline or heck online you can plan out all different scenarios from 1x to 6x. Heck back in the old days we use to practice in 6x wear for our heat races, (even thou they were in 3x wear) just so we could tweak our setups a bit faster, and not do so many laps at once.. lol

Basically if your a diehard racer, and enjoy it, you could do a fuel run with practicing in each wear factor, and write down your pit strategy from that. And know how to deal with it accordingly prior to the admins releasing what wear factor can be used.

I think ARL leagues have found something really cool for heat online racing, and there numbers do show it.

Just my .02 cents

as I said to Grumpy a couple nights ago, I didn't say that newcomers leave because of wear factors. what I meant, is that as hard as it is to get the equipment and all the software required to race, why keep loading on more obstacles for them to over come. like laying on the wear factor minutes before the race.
when I found heat about a year ago, I was only looking for software that would allow me and my friends to use it on our newer 64bit computers. but I got a ton of help from Duster and Donaldson, and both had said I should join the ARL because it's mission statement was to not discourage newcomers from entering races, getting their butts kicked, and the going away.
as far as making a note book up for each track from factor one thru six. I just got home from running my business since starting at about five AM. I haven't showered, had dinner, or spent any time with the family yet. perhaps you can send me yours, so I might be ready for a nine o'clock race

Like you I work all day to! I raced online for 10 years.. If I was to race again, I would just jump in my car and race as is..

Now I spend some of my free time running a web site, creating Mods and Tracks for this game. Which takes up a hell of alot more time.then running a few practice laps. Check out my new Camping World Truck Series mod.. Running a few laps is way less time, consuming then making models for mods or tracks! Oh yea I have a family too!

Happy Racing Everyone!!

Just do a fuel run in 6x wear then do the math with the other wear factors when they are announced, that's what I did most of the time when I ran most of the ARL Cup series races a few seasons ago. It's usually accurate within a .5-1.5 lap in lower wear rates. Now on Road courses it's always better to run those in the expected wear factor as it is harder to judge exact distance than it is on ovals.

6x wear to 2x wear is laps x3
6x wear to 3x wear is laps x2
6x wear to 4x wear is laps x3 divided by 2
6x wear to 5x wear is laps x6 divided by 5
