Pitting question |

Just curious on this because it has bitten me at Dover, twice in the all star and once last night. I seem to keep getting caught in a pit sequence where the caution comes out and pits are closed when I'm about to run out of fuel. I have made the stops because of being about to run out of fuel and not wanting to fall out because of running out. I know you can not make the stop and be ok, but every one of these incidences so far I would have run out if not for making the stop. Just wondering what the procedure in this case should be. I usually still come around and pit with everyone again from the rear, so I don't gain too much of an advantage. I could just stay out on these and gain the spots because I don't see anything against that in the rule book. Just wondering if that's something that can be looked at. |

If you pit when the pits are closed you receive a 1 point & 1 second penalty. If you mistakenly enter the pits when they are closed, you can simply drive through, not enter your box and rejoin the grid at the back - you will not receive the penalty. Pitting when the pits are closed has no impact on what happens after that, AKA you can definitely stay out when everyone else comes in. Just don't forget about that time penalty that gets applied at the end of the race (it's taken wins away at least a couple times and plenty of other finishing positions). On the fuel side of things, often many of us get caught with the fuel light on at the end of a segment. You might be surprised how long you can go under caution with that light on. You might want to test it out at caution speeds so your more comfortable the next time this comes around. << Edited on Sunday, May 24, 2020 at 2:47pm EDT. >> |
