Caution Filled Phoenix 110 Leaves Speedyman11 Leading @ Checkered

Race 4 of the 2016 ARL Patch Cup Series took place Saturday night at Phoenix International Raceway for the Phoenix 110. Qualifying kicked off with excitement from the start, within the first minute of the 10 minute open qualifying session ltfireman1604 caught the apron and spun into BlackKnight. Bother drivers received heavy damage and had to return to pit road for repairs. Before that lap was over Speedyman11 got loose exiting turn 4 and hit the inside wall hard. On the next lap Rookiesrock went hard into wall head-on when trying to enter pit road. Despite the accidents, the 10 minute open qualifying session continued under green with time counting down. With 7 minutes remaining Speedyman11 took over the pole position with a 25.980 second lap. Breeze and Grumpy both drove into the wall entering turn 1 with about 6 minutes remaining. After picking up some drafting assistance Speedyman11 improved his pole position time with 2 minutes remaining, running a 25.697 second lap. Rookiesrock comfortably qualified in second position with a 25.990 second lap. After capturing the pole award, Speedyman11 choose to start in the outside lane. This put Rookiesrock on the inside of the front row. This quickly worked out bad for Speedy as he got loose in turn 2 and bounced off the wall on the first green flag lap and fell to fourth. Meanwhile Rookie jumped to an early lead along with BlackKnight. The #33 Grumpy and #31 JRich Chevrolet's battled in the opening laps, bouncing off each other and the wall several times but continued to race. Green flag stops began on lap 20. With just half the field pitted the first caution was thrown as JRich gets loose and spins on the front stretch in front BlackKnight who receives heavy front end damage. The race restarted on lap 28 with Breeze leading and Rookiesrock outside but Rookie moved into the lead by turn 2 followed closely by Speedyman11 around the outside as Breeze drops to third. The second caution was thrown after just one lap on 29 when ltfireman1604 gets loose in turn 1 collecting Grumpy. The green flag dropped on lap 34 with Rookiesrock leading the field and Breeze on the outside. Caution number 3 was thrown on lap 36 when JRich gets loose, collecting Grumpy. The race restart on lap 41 with BlackKnight's #92 NH Autosport Chevrolet leading. Rookie moved into the lead before the first lap was complete with a push from Speedy. Lap 47 brought caution 4 with Rookiesrock spinning in second position but making a successful recovery without damage. The green flag flew on lap 53 with Rookie leading. The green didn't last long as caution 5 came out in turn 2 on the restart lap when Breeze ran high colliding with BlackKnight and sending both cars into the wall. JRich was also collected. The race finally went back green on lap 59 with Rookie still at the front. Caution 6 occurred on lap 62 when JRich and Grumpy collided exiting turn 4. Shortly afterward Grumpy suffered a disconnect due to a power outage. After yellow flag pit stops ltfireman1604 inherited the lead into the green flag on lap 67. Rookiesrock and Speedyman11 quickly moved into the top two positions out of turn 2 on the outside. Lap 69 meant the 7th caution of the night would fly with ltfireman1640 spinning on his own in the back. Green waved on lap 74 with Breeze and JRich leading. The green would not last one turn this time when caution 8 flew in turn 1 on the same lap when Breeze caught the apron, taking Rookiesrock and BlackKnight out along the way. We returned green on lap 77 with the #31 M&M's Chevrolet of JRich and Speedyman11 leading the field. On lap 80 JRich caught the apron while racing with Speedy sending him spinning into the outside wall and bringing out the 9th caution. Speedy and Breeze lead the field to green and the restart on lap 85. Exiting turn 4 BlackKnight caught the apron on lap 93 sending him sideways and blocking the track. Breeze in an effort to avoid BK goes low but looses control and hits the end of pit wall head on. JRich, unable to see what is happening on the front stretch, has no time to react to BlackKnight who is blocking the track and hits him head on. As a result caution #10 waved on lap 94. With ltfireman1604 and Speedyman11 leading the field the green flew to restart the race with 10 laps-to-go. Speedy jumped to an early 1 second lead with Rookiesrock quickly moving into the second position pushing his car hard into the turns. With the end of the race closing in ltfireman, BK and Breeze were racing hard for third place. On lap 107 the constant contact between the drivers paid it's tole for BK when ltfireman gets loose exiting turn 4 and pushes BK into the inside wall bringing out the 11th and final caution flag. Without enough laps to restart, the race ended under caution. Speedyman11 captured the win in the #11 TMS Wolfpack Chevrolet. Speedy picked up the fastest lap award during the race with a 25.738 second lap. Rookiesrock finished the race second after leading the most laps, 54 of 110, followed by ltfireman1604, Breeze and BlackKnight in the top five.
