California 80 Victory Captured by Speedyman11, 4th Consecutive Win of 2016

ltfireman1604 captured the pole award Saturday night for the T-Bone National Series California 80 at the Auto Club Speedway during open qualifying with a 40.971 second lap. Rookiesrock qualified in the second position, outside pole, with a 41.072 second lap.

TMS Wolfpack quickly organized at the drop of the green flag, moving into the top 4 positions with the #87 DAB Chevrolet of ltfireman1604 leading. TMS Wolfpack broke away from the field along with DusterLag trailing in the top 5. Rookiesrock's #48 Lowe's Chevrolet moved into the lead on lap 10. The #01 NH Autosport Ford fought his way through the team, passing inside and outside throughout the 14 laps until the first round of pit stops trying to take the lead but only making it to second position.

Duster entered the pits third but picked up a black flag for entering too fast sending him to last place.

Rookie exited as the leader with a 4 second margin over lltfireman1604 and Speedyman11 who ran bumper to bumper for the next 10 laps. ltfireman and Speedy caught Rookie on lap 26 just a the second and final round of pit stops began, moving them into the lead. Speedy exited with a 2 second lead over Rookie and ltfireman. The two ran out of time leaving Speedyman11 to capture his fourth consecutive victory of the 2016 season. Speedy also picked up the fastest lap award with a 41.064 second lap. Rookie finished second after leading the most laps of the race while ltfireman came home third. Fordly56's #2 Team Penske Ford followed in fourth with Breeze's #62 South Point Chevrolet rounding the top five. KartRacer63 finished sixth but also earned the hard charger award after starting 11th.

We haven't talked much about the championship standings this season but with 5 races down and just 16 races until the first chase reset let's check in. Speedyman11 currently leads with 4 wins and by 20 points over DusterLag. 12 drivers will move into the first reset segment and to this point 14 drivers have been scored. TMS Wolfpack leads the team standings with 5 wins and 4 poles during the 5 events run this year. NH Autosport sits 49 points behind, holding the 1 remaining pole award. Chevrolet currently leads the manufacturer championship standings after picking up every win so far this season. Toyota and Ford combined have less total starts than Chevrolet.

Race 6 of the 2016 T-Bone National Series takes place at the Bristol Motor Speedy after a 3 week break on April 16th for the Bristol 50 at 9pm ET 1:00 UTC.
