KartRacer63 Takes Wilkesboro Classic 80 Cup Victory

Open qualifying began the night with 10 minutes for any driver to capture the Wilkesboro Classic 80 pole position. Speedyman11 moved into the top position at the mid way point with a 19.816 second lap and held the position but spent the remainder of the session improving his time, capturing the pole award with a 19.796 second lap. KartRacer63 qualified in the second position with a 19.884 second lap. With Speedyman11's #11 TMS Wolfpack Chevrolet and KartRacer63's #63 DupliColor NH Autosport Chevrolet leading the field to begin the 130 lap race the green flag waved. Speedy quickly moved into the lead with the field going single file by turn 2. The first caution flew on lap 10 when puttzracer caught the apron and spun across the track. Rookiesrock and ltfireman1604 lead the field to the restart on lap 15. Caution #2 quickly flew on the same lap when ltfireman got loose exiting turn 2 sending him across the front bumper of Speedy, down to the apron and back across the track going into turn 3, straight into BlackKnight who received heavy damage from the outside wall. Speedy's reaction nearly sends him into the pit wall but avoids damage at the very last second and gets it back onto the track. Rookie and Kart lead the field for the restart on lap 21, Rookiesrock staying out during that caution. The third caution flew on the next lap, 22, when BlackKnight got loose exiting turn 4 and collected Breeze. The green flag restarted the race for lap 27 with Speedy and ltfireman's #87 Nationwide Chevrolet leading the field. Speedy quickly drove to a comfortable lead. After a relatively long green flag run, caution #4 was thrown on lap 49 with many of the leaders on pit road already making green flag stops mixing up the field. The race restart on lap 58 after officials sorted the field, Rookiesrock and KartRacer63 were on the front row after the caution worked out in their favor. Kart managed to move into lead on the outside as Rookie struggled to hold his car in the low line. The 5th caution came out on lap 59 when ltfireman squeezed BlackKnight's #92 Coors Light Chevrolet down onto the apron sending him spinning on the track where he collected Breeze and narrowly missed Speedy. Lap 66 brought the next restart with Breeze, who did not pit under caution, and Kart leading the field. Racing turns extreme for ltfireman and BlackKnight at the green flag. At the restart BK gets a run on and passes ltfireman at the line. lt then hits BK in the rear sending him up the track in turn 1 taking the position back. BK then drives lt up the track in turn 3 but bounces himself into the inside wall, sending both of them spinning on the track and bringing out the 6th caution. The green flag finally flew again for lap 75 with Kart and puttzracer's #46 Chik-fil-a Chevrolet leading. The 7th caution flew on lap 83 and restarted on lap 87 after pit stops with Rookie and Speedy leading the field. Caution 8 fly's at the restart as puttzracer pushes Kart into the outside wall. The restart comes quickly on lap 91 with ltfireman, who did not pit under caution, and Rookiesrock leading. Caution #9 came out on lap 95 with puttzracer spinning. Before the caution flew, Speedyman11 was struggling with an extremely loose car, as a result he crashed alone on the track and lost his left front tire. This left Speedy a lap down when the caution flew and two laps down at the restart. The green flag waved with 31 laps to go, Kart and Rookie leading. Extreme racing followed for the next several laps and heavy damage throughout the field, but everyone recovered from their single-car wrecks and no caution flew. Racing continued green until the checkered flag where KartRacer63 captured his first win of the 2016 season and 6th win overall in the ARL Patch Cup Series. Kart managed to lap most of the field in the final 30 laps, the exception being second position, he also led the most laps of the event, 48 of 130. Rookiesrock finished in second position, 16 seconds behind Kart and the last car on the lead lap. Breeze picked up the hard charger award and finished third. puttzracer followed in fourth with ltfireman1604 finishing fifth. Speedyman11 started on the pole but couldn't recover after loosing his left-front tire just before the final caution. Speedy earned the fastest lap award with a 19.803 second lap but ended up finishing 6th, 2 laps down, and taking home the headache award. Race 7 of the 2016 season will be at Martinsville Speedway on April 2nd beginning at 10:30pm ET, 2:30 UTC. View complete results here.
