Speedyman11 Captures 6th Win of 2016 at Martinsville Speedway

Open qualifying began Saturday night for the Martinsville 140, race 7 of the 2016 ARL Patch Cup Series season. An interesting strategy showed from the start of the clock for championship leader Speedyman11. Speedy was running fast laps from the start, running a 19.061 second lap time within the first 2 minutes. Speedy would run one fast lap and then pit, he continued to do this throughout the entire 10 minute session. In the end Speedyman11 captured the pole position in with a record 19.005 second lap. Qualifying second on the outside pole was KartRacer63 with a 19.253 second fast lap. With the #11 TMS Wolfpack Chevrolet and #63 Dupli-Color NH Autosport Chevrolet leading the field the green flew. Racing was tight from the start with 3-wide racing and cars bouncing off the outside wall for the opening 10 laps. The first caution of the night came out on lap 14 for an accident involving ltfireman1604, KartRacer63 and JRich. The first restart came on lap 24 but green flag racing wouldn't last a single turn before caution #2 could come out. The accident started when ltfireman1604 missed the start, KartRacer63 attempted to avoid the rear of lt by going low but Redimuss had already moved into that lane, this sent Kart up onto two wheels and spinning backwards. Red received front-end damage from contact with Kart but also bounced off the inside wall. The restart came on lap 30 with Donaldson and JRich leading. JRich had a slow start which backed up the field, but Speedy squeezed his way aggressively through the middle of JRich and Breeze from 5th position into second, taking the lead by the next lap. Lee606, making just his second Patch Cup start, was struggling as he went a lap down, spinning in turn 3 bringing out the third caution on lap 41 caution. Lap 48 brought the restart with BlackKnight and Breeze leading. Green flag pit stops began on lap 71 with Donaldson entering while running in the second position. Redimuss suffered a disconnect on lap 62. Speedyman11 continued to lead the race and lap cars throughout the longest green flag run of the night. Racing continued under green for 76 laps until ltfireman1604 and BlackKnight tangled on the back stretch prompting the fourth caution of the night on lap 124. KartRacer63 struggled with a poor connection and was forced to retire on lap 124 under caution. The race went green with 8 laps to go and Speedyman11 and BlackKnight on the front row but only two cars were on the left on the lead lap, Speedyman11 and Donaldson. Unfortunately Donaldson, who decided to pit just before the restart, would restart the race from the back of the field. Donaldson quickly made his way through the lap cars but Speedy picked up a comfortable lead for the closing laps and captured his 6th win of the 2016 season with a 4 second margin. Speedy lead the most laps, 93, and earned the fastest lap award with a 19.021 second lap. Donaldson picked up the hard charger award after starting last but came up short at the end, finishing second. Breeze finishes third with ltfireman1604 and BlackKnight rounding out the top five.
