In A Controversial Daytona Summer 150 Finish Under Yellow, KartRacer63 Take Victory

In a highly controversial finish Saturday night at the Daytona Summer 150 Patch Cup Series race, KartRacer63 came home with his second win of the year. But it wasn't so simple. After a wreck with two laps remaining the yellow flag waved bringing out just the second caution of the night. ARL Officials attempted to slow the field and restart the race for the white flag. Unfortunately the field could not be slowed and ordered before the start/finish line and an attempted green flag failed, the restart was deemed unsuccessful and the grid reset to the previous lineup and with just one lap remaining the race was essentially over. This put Speedyman11 back in the lead with KartRacer63 second. As drivers continued under caution around the track to the checkered flag, Speedy lost control of his car and wrecked allowing the entire field to pass by and take the checkered without him. More than 30 minutes after the race was completed, ARL Officials made the official call and announced who actually won the race: "Following a failed restart with one-to-go the grid was reset to the previous lineup, all drivers are required to maintain pace speed under caution and because Speedy relinquished the lead after wrecking prior to taking the checkered flag - the win moves onto the next driver in the official lineup. This means KartRacer63 is the winner of the Daytona Summer 150."

KartRacer63 led just 8 laps in the 60 lap race but was in the right place at the right time to earn the trophy in his #63 NH Autosport Chevrolet. Rookiesrock finished second with the pole sitter the most laps led award winner, ltfireman1604, finishing third. Fordly56 earned the hard charger award and finished fourth. Speedy ended up finishing the race last on the lead lap in fifth position after spinning on the final lap.

BlackKnight earned the fastest lap award, running a 44.244 second lap in the draft, and finished seventh.

Eight races remain before the driver championship field is reset with round one. Twelve drivers will move onto the first round. ltfireman1604 remains at the top of the standings with Speedyman11 in second.

Race 16 of the 2016 Patch Cup Series season brings drivers to Kentucky Speedway for the Kentucky Bluegrass 120 on Saturday, July 9th beginning early at 10pm ET.
