I just wanted to pop in and post a quick message regarding the JHRA server I added to heatfinder tonight, though some of you were there and already know this stuff.

The core group of users is small, comes from a different game, and most of them don't have any simracing experience. We're setting it up as a "Normal" server with short event lengths to ease them into it. Since not everyone owns a wheel (or possibly even a gamepad w/ analog sticks), the "official" JHRA league is intended for keyboard-using newbies.

I've had the server running for a couple of weeks, just didn't have it listed here. DaveO @ themodsquad suggested in a PM I put it here eventually, so I did.

Apologies for any initial confusion for those of you that jumped in.

It's always great to have new leagues in the community and it's been along time since a "keyboard" league has been here. Good to have around!

Is your league open to the public? If so, would you like to have it listed on our Community page?

I'll ask the guy running it. I'm just providing the server.

Glad you made the leap to have your server listed on heatfinder.

Next step, once you talk to your buddy, is to post about your keyboard league out at TMS. Also let your users know there are tons of mods and tracks they can download, for there enjoyment.

The league looks interesting, I know a couple people who might be interested.

While the rest of the leagues, including the one I run ARL, don't require a wheel (and actually a few people race with controllers such as the Xbox 360 controller and win races), most do have wheels. But it would be interesting to have a league that restricts wheels. Maybe I can even race it on the PC I setup on my TV so my kids could play Heat on it with an Xbox 360 controller.

A couple of us were talking about it last night. It does sound interesting. Except I am sure someone would come in and use a wheel.

Yeah, we don't really have much in place to police the rule. It's more just taking people at their word.

Personally I'm a fan of any racing game that can give you an enjoyable experience with just a keyboard, even if it isn't the best way to do things.

I still have most of my old DOS games archived, and I'm known to carry them around on a flash drive with a portable copy of DOSBox. For...emergencies. Yeah.

Three of my favorites were Whiplash (known as "Fatal Racing" outside the US), the old Network Q RAC Rally game (I knew nothing of rally before this), and Grand Prix 2 (my intro to Formula 1). All of which I spent hours and hours on with a keyboard.

That's not to say I haven't spent time behind a plastic steering wheel, because I certainly have - too much if you ask my wife

Sometimes it's just fun to keep it simple.

Just an update - he said that would be fine.
