Blocking or reckless driving? |

After asking for clarification on what constitutes "blocking" and last week Dusterlag explaining before the race that in general there is no rule on blocking, which i find hard to believe. He stated that if you attempt to block another driver and you cause an accident, Then you would probably receive areckless driving penalty.I dont remember him stating anything about whether or not you get a penalty if you cause damage too, slightly , minor , or wheel damage, which would only be known by the driver recieving it. Sounds kindawishy washy IMO.Ive been penalized for reckless blocking when i wasnt reckleess nor blocking. Now to some this up I have included a short video, no paints and no drivers are being identified.I would like your honest opinion on what you see.The focus here is on the lead car. Is one blocking maneuver okay? This takes place ,mind you, just after the 1st pit stop of a 4-5 stop race Not on the last lap! or laps! Has the lead car gone too far? Do his actions warrant a penalty? if not a blocking penalty, of which ARL does not have, its said, but a reckless or dangerous driving penalty? If a driver is allowed to drive like this and get away with it, he will continue to drive like this. Next time you may be the guy trying to pass him! |

Hm. Interesting video. I personally don't see anything that would grant him a penalty. He didn't change direction multiple times when the second place car driver tried to go around him. I think that's some unwritten rule in the racing world, that you can block an attack, but you have to stay in that position. So he went inside to avoid an overtake and he stayed there. The second place car could have gone around him on the outside, but that's obviously extremely difficult. There are some less aggressive drivers out there, who would give you space, but also more aggressive, who would fight till the end withing the boundaries of rules. The league officials should determine if this driver was blocking or not, I just stated my opinion |

Didn't see nothing but good hard racing Breeze. Now if the lead car would have forced the 2nd car all the way down on the other side of the yellow line and onto the back infield I'd say that's a bit wreckless blocking but once they realized the 2nd car was there they gave room. Now if this was hardcore mode instead of arcade mode those moves could have caused a spinout depending on setups. If there was no damage I say let drivers be drivers. |

I'm going to cover this as specifically as I can, going through each point... - The rulebook was changed for 2016, included in these changes were a loosing of race penalties. This includes the elimination of a handful of specific penalties including "Reckless Blocking". Prior to 2016 there was a Reckless Blocking rule and penalty, beginning this year there is no specific reckless blocking penalty. Comparing any previous year penalties to this year would not be helpful. - During reviews a incident must meet two criteria in order to receive a "Reckless & Dangerous Driving" penalty... 1) The driver must have been doing something reckless or dangerous (as determined by one or more league officials depending on the specific situation). and 2) The driver must have affected the performance of the other driver (this includes wrecking, spinning, heavy visible damage, significant speed loss, direct position loss among others that could be considered). Now it is important to note that this in related to accidents only. If it is determined that someone is intentionally causing damage to another driver, consider someone hitting the breaks in front of another driver when the track is clear in front of them and the other driver is directly behind them, different penalties would apply. - When an incident occurs (aka lap 1, 60 or the final lap) has no affect on a penalty being or not being issued - in all cases, it would never be considered. - In your video, I see nothing that would receive a penalty. I will say this, under last years more strict rules - it would have been a very borderline call on a blocking penalty and likely would not have received a penalty. It would have come down to a private vote of all the League Officials. But again that is in our old rulebook, in the 2016 rulebook and our review procedures - no penalty would be issued for this. I concur that it is simply hard racing, nothing more, and as I said - this is likely what would have been the decisions even last year. - Consider all of section VII from the league rulebook. |
