Varying Wear Factors Announced: A new challenge or a more competitive environment?

Early Monday morning HeatFinder Leagues Administration and Arcade Racing League Officials made a surprising announcement that could have ramifications throughout the season. Drivers may be racing under a different wear factor week-to-week, the wear factor will be determined randomly between a set range per series. Cup Series events will be held under 2x, 3x, 4x or 5x factors. Sports Car Series events will run 5x or 6x factors. Previously the Cup Series ran only 3x and the Sports Car Series ran 5x only. League Officials will make a public announcement on the league forum in the morning of the day prior to the next event. For example: If the next event is a Saturday night, League Officials will make the announcement post Friday morning.

HeatFinder Leagues Administrator DusterLag spoke following the announcement: "We've been working hard on finding solutions to improve competition and implement new challenges. Running a Normal mode league in NASCAR Heat can be a challenge itself, creating new challenges for current drivers while maintaining an easy entry for rookies makes that challenge harder. We believe varying the wear factor weekly will simulate the changing environmental factors real world drivers experience including temperature and tire compound fluctuations. Making the wear announcement the day prior to events simulates the initial practice sessions real world drivers run when they get their first opportunity to test the track with their tires and setups.". Varying wear factors will be implemented for all events and series following the ARL All-Star events in three weeks.
